Whitney Houston music sales skyrocket
Whitney Houston‘s music skyrocketed to the top of the charts in the wake of the singer’s death, which was announced on Saturday.
Houston’s recordings ruled the top 175 songs on Apple’s (APPL) iTunes on Monday, led by her recording of the Dolly Parton song, “I Will Always Love You.”
“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and “Greatest Love of All,” both from Houston’s “The Greatest Hits” album, clocked in at numbers two and three.
Houston’s albums also dominated the top 10 albums on Amazon.com. “The Greatest Hits” and “Ultimate Collection” held the first and second slots. Her soundtrack from the movie “The Bodyguard” and her album “Whitney Houston” were numbers four and five.

Bollywood music in America
It comes as a surprise that Americans could be interested in Hindi music. Though this could be just the beginning and if things go as planned, Bollywood tunes may gain popularity even among whites in the US.
The website, torrins.com, which teaches Americans to play guitar on English
songs, has started lesson in Bollywood music since last year. Says co-founder, Sunil Sundaram, “Of late, there has been curiosity among the western musicians and aspirants to learn Bollywood music and Indian music. We have got extremely good response for songs like Jai Ho.”
He adds: “Majority of our subscribers come from the US for English and Bollywood content. We have seen a good jump from India, Pakistan and UK too in the last few months.” Torrins currently has 40 Bollywood songs in its catalogue. The latest edition being, Mujhko Pehchan Lo from Don 2. “We are striving to add two Bollywood songs every week. Don 2 music is growing fast since we uploaded it two-weeks back,” says Sunil.

Monday is February 20, which isn’t Washington’s birthday. His real birthday is February 22 using the calendar we currently use. It’s called the Gregorian calendar and was first used in 1752. The problem is that Washington was born in 1732, when a different calendar — the Julian one — was used. According to the Julian calendar, Washington was born February 11. Confused? All this basically means is that there are any number of days in February when it’s fine to celebrate the father of our country.
